Using a spectrogram

Learn how to view a sound's frequency distribution, pitch guides, and markers.

Start analysis

  1. spectrogram.
  2. Press the Start button and allow the use of your microphone.
  3. Produce or play the sound you want to analyze and check the frequency distribution over time.
  4. When you finish analyzing, select Stop to end microphone use.

frequency guide

The horizontal guides on the graph show frequencies and their corresponding note names. When you change the A4 reference pitch, the pitch guides shift with it so you can compare frequencies using your preferred tuning standard.

Turn on peak display to see which notes are currently closest to the strongest frequency. This may appear different from the actual sound played on instruments with many overtones.

Use marker

Click the graph on desktop or briefly tap on mobile to add horizontal markers at the desired frequencies. You can drag the marker up or down to reposition it and see the exact frequency on the label.

When you turn on the marker's octave display, the octave positions above and below the selected frequency are displayed together. Delete unnecessary markers using the Close button.

screen settings

In the settings, you can adjust the scroll/radar display method, FFT resolution, color, peak, logarithmic scale, maximum frequency, and movement speed. Some analysis resolution settings can only be changed while the measurement is stopped.
